The first edition of Transvalor’s European Casting Forum is organized in partnership with Acciaierie d’Italia to initiate technical discussions within the European metal industry about the main technological and innovation challenges regarding the processes of continuous casting and ingot casting.

Transvalor and Acciaierie d’Italia believe that the combination of numerical simulation and experimental research on materials, is a key asset for the achievement of the most difficult goals and would like to open a discussion about the potential of simulation supported by advanced material knowledge in this industrial sector, looking at what is now achieved and at what should be addressed in the future.

What can you expect?

With the European Casting Forum, Transvalor celebrates the recent establishment of the new branch in Italy and is willing to meet with the main players from the European steelmaking industry. Our ambition is to pinpoint the needs and identify the specific challenges related to daily production and innovative research projects.

With a series of keynotes and technical presentations, we aim at sharing with all participants how today’s simulation tools can help to reach the present goals and how tomorrow’s digital twins can support the most advanced innovation projects.

Acciaierie d’Italia is proudly hosting this event and honored to announce its newly equipped R&D centre and laboratories. A visit to the R&D centre and the steel plant will be organized during the event to showcase the brand-new facilities and to promote fruitful research partnerships with the European players.

The role of process simulation in the contemporary steelmaking industry

The numerical simulation of solidification in industrial processes, such as continuous and ingot casting, has reached a high level of maturity after several decades of development efforts. Nowadays the steelmaking industry and the producers of high-added-value materials profoundly rely on material and process simulation tools. This software is used for their strategic R&D activities and to make high-level decisions on major investments.

In R&D organizations and academia, casting process simulation is exploited to its maximum potential to establish reliable digital twins. On top of that, Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Analytics techniques drive the need to accelerate casting processes digitalization. This trend is supported by large funding programs made available by the European Commission, such as the Horizon Europe and the Innovation fund.
