The newest benefits of simulation for heat treatment & microstructure prediction

This article aims at promoting process simulation in the forging industry by presenting the newest opportunities available in Transvalor simulation software so-called FORGE®. The topics covered include heat treatment simulations among those autenitization, quenching, carburizing and nitriding. Focus is also given to the software novelties related to induction forge heating and induction heat treating for surface hardening. In a second part, recent work related to the modelling of phase transformation for titanium alloys is highlighted allowing the prediction of β phase and of every α phases during the forming cycle. Finally, leading edge modelling based on full field approach introduces grain size prediction at mesoscale level and its implementation into the new so-called DIGIMU® software.
